How MOQ Works for Rattan Furniture Bought from Indonesia — handwoven rattan from Exterio Rattan, Cirebon

In short: Our baseline is one 40' High-Cube container, about 68 CBM, which you can fill by mixing 6 to 8 product lines. Each model also has a unit minimum shown on its product card.

What does MOQ mean in rattan furniture sourcing?

MOQ is the minimum order quantity a factory will accept. In handwoven furniture it exists because each model needs weaving, finishing and kiln drying in batches, and very small runs cost more per piece than the price allows. Buyers meet MOQ in two forms: a unit minimum per model, and a container minimum for the whole shipment.

The two kinds of MOQ at Exterio Rattan

  • Container minimum: our baseline order is one 40' High-Cube container, about 68 CBM.
  • Unit minimum per model: shown on every product card. Our catalog currently runs from 30 to 60 units per chair model and 150 to 300 units per basket model.

Mixing product lines to fill a container

You do not have to fill a container with one product. You can mix up to 6 to 8 different product lines across baskets, occasional chairs and dining tables, as long as each model meets its own unit minimum. A retailer who wants 60 dining chairs and 150 storage baskets can ship both together.

Why nesting makes MOQ easier to reach

Bulky furniture fills container volume fast, while nested baskets take very little. By packing nested basket sets into the seat cavities of sofas and armchairs, we use space that would otherwise ship empty. This mixed-cavity method is covered in Container Cavity Packing, and it is one reason mixed orders cost less per unit to land.

A simple way to plan your first order

  1. List the models you want and note each unit minimum from the product cards.
  2. Group them into one container, mixing baskets, chairs and tables.
  3. Add your products to the inquiry list and send it. We reply with FOB pricing for your quantities.
  4. Confirm production timing: standard lead time is 45 to 60 days from deposit confirmation.

What about OEM and private label?

Custom and private-label runs are confirmed per project in your quotation. The container baseline gives a useful starting point, and the full process is described on our OEM & Custom page.

Why smaller MOQs cost more per piece

Handwoven furniture is not stamped out. Frames are made in jigs, weaving is done by hand, finishes are mixed and applied in batches, and drying runs in loads. Every one of those steps has set-up work that is spread across the quantity. A run of 10 pieces carries almost the same set-up as a run of 60, so the cost per piece is higher at 10. Unit minimums protect pricing on both sides.

Three ways to lower the risk of a first order

  1. Start with fast-moving shapes. Choose models that already suit your market, rather than testing many unknowns at once.
  2. Mix across lines. Combine baskets, chairs and tables so no single model carries the whole container.
  3. Order a prototype first on custom work. A 10-day sample costs far less than correcting a full run.

Common MOQ questions from importers

Can I order less than a container? Our baseline is one 40' High-Cube container. If your volume is lower, tell us what you are planning, and we can discuss options, though pricing will reflect the smaller run.

Do unit minimums apply to colors and sizes? Unit minimums are set per model. If you want several colors or sizes of a model, tell us at inquiry so we can quote the combination accurately.

Payment and shipping basics

Standard terms are a 30% deposit on the proforma invoice and the 70% balance against a Bill of Lading scan, or an Irrevocable L/C at sight. Goods ship FOB from the Port of Tanjung Priok in Jakarta. More buyer questions are answered in our Buyer FAQ.
